Present: Fr. Don West, Mike Birkley, Janice Noble, Ron Stang, Nanette Davis, Bob Walmsley, Richard Adams, Mary Jo Jarman Absent: Suzanne Schneller
St Mary’s: Deb DePuccio, Karen Moerman, Jerry Etienne, Patti Poe. Lee Spiller, Pam Sandker, Joy Phillips
Opening Prayer: Gospel was read and discussed Approval of the Minutes: Nanette moved to approve; Bob Walsmsley seconded. Introduction of members present. Rich reported that he has sloughed his job as secretary to Nanette.
Reports:
Lectors: Ron: There is wonderful progress. Several High school kids have been recruited. They are waiting to be trained. Eucharistic Ministers: Mike: No changes. There is one possibility. Mike has contacted him by phone. He will try again in person.
Eucharistic Ministers to Shut-Ins: Ron: We have lost some people. Ron will contact some ministers who visit the sick and ask if they would like to be Eucharistic Ministers also.
Ushers: Bob: We have more than enough ministers for Sundays. There are approximately 4 per Mass. No one has asked to leave. We only have one woman usher so far. There is reluctance on the part of women to be ushers.
Servers: Rich: We have added 2 new servers with 3 or 4 more who have offered to serve but have not been trained yet. Several servers are automatic no shows when they are assigned. Rich will call for a recommitment from each and he will update their phone numbers and possibly get e-mail addresses.
Music: Mary Jo Pierce: the choir is meeting and preparing for Easter. Next Practice is Jan 28th. Ron has a new tenor volunteer. He will give the volunteer the information when he sees him at Mass Sunday. St Pete and St Mary musicians met to plan the music through Feb 2nd. Nanette: The Harvest books were covered and distributed after the last Sunday Mass before Advent with the help of the congregation. St. Mary and St. Pete will arrange a meeting to plan for the Lent and Easter seasons after the theme for the season has been discussed. RCIA: Jerry: there are 2 children looking for sponsors. Group includes 3 brothers from St Mary’s, 1 other man, and 2 women. There will be 1 baptism. The reception after the Vigil will be discussed later.
Engaged Ministry: Fr Don: There is only one couple right now but they are in need of tribunal work.
Bereavement Committee: St Mary’s has a few visitations in the gathering area. There was a discussion of the possibility of using the cry room for a visitation area for very small groups. We are working at St. Pete’s to resurrect the bereavement group for parishioners. Father will make the decision.
Old Business: Advent and Christmas evaluation: Rich thought the music and decorations were great. There was standing room at the 4:30 and Midnight Masses. Turn out was slim for the day Masses. We will keep the same schedule for next year but reverse the churches on the Eve and Midnight Masses. Time and Talent sheets discussed. We need to ask the present ministers for a recommitment before we do the new sheets. Father prefers that we wait until after Lent. St. Pete can’t find 8 people to volunteer to run for Pastoral Council. We will run with a short slate.
New Business: There was discussion of what the ‘theme’ of the Lenten and Easter seasons should be. The nails of the cross keep Christ’s hands from working. How are we the nails in His hands? What are the nails which hold us back? How do we let go of the nails? A group met after the meeting to arrange a time to fine tune the details. Station will be held at both churches. Holy Thursday will be St Pete’s; Easter Vigil at St. Mary’s at 8:30. Lenten Penance service is not planned yet. Ash Wednesday will be 7PM at St. Mary’s and 12 noon at St. Pete’s. The first year at St Pete’s may be sparse. We will advertise for both Churches and try it for a year. Easter Sunday will be 8:30 (St Pete’s) and 10:30 (St Mary’s). There will be shared ministry for Holy Thursday and the Vigil. There will be signup sheets for 6 people from each parish for the foot washing before Father volunteers them. Palm Sunday, Father Don will read the Passion from the Heritage. Good Friday it will be read with the congregation in parts. There will be a walk through Mass at St. Pete’s on Thursday January 24th at 7PM. It will last approximately 75 minutes. Fr. Tim Sheerer will do a presentation on the 1st Saturday of Lent on Women of the Old Testament. 9AM-2PM. Next meeting March 12th at St Mary’s will be a combined parishes meeting. Lenten planning group to meet 1/16/8 after the 7PM Mass.
