PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC): Meets the second Thursday of the even months, February, April, June, August, October, December after the 7:00p.m. Mass. To have something added to or for information on the agenda or to express a concern or to compliment, CONTACT; Joe McCabe
ST. PETER PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING February 28, 2008
Members Present: Marge Armbruster, , Fran Corwin, Joe McCabe, Mark Miller, Ed Sendelbach, Paul Vanderbosch
Ex-Officio Members Present: Fr. Don West, Pastor
Members Absent: Michelle Armbruster, Judy Stubbe
Opening Prayer: Joe McCabe led the “Our Father” and all members received copies of a reading of St. Paul to the Ephesians
Approval of minutes: Mark Miller motioned to approve the October minutes and Fran Corwin seconded. The motion was approved by all. Although the October minutes were not in the bulletin, they were on St. Peter’s web site. Joe McCabe welcomed the newly elected members of the Pastoral Council.
Old Business: a. Windows – The problem of the bright sun shining in the church windows has been investigated thoroughly…Blinds, film on the windows and other suggestions have been found to be unsatisfactory. Either the attempted solution wouldn’t work well or the expense would be too high and impractical for what amounts to be a minor irritation. b. Roof leak- An overflow will be installed to correct the roof leak.
Commission Reports: a. Worship- St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s had a joint Worship Commission Meeting at St. Mary’s on January 9, 2008. Some highlights are as follows: 1. Several high school students have been recruited to be trained as lectors 2. The combined choir is preparing for Easter 3. Holy Thursday will be at St. Peter’s and Easter Vigil will be held at St. Mary’s at 8:30pm. Easter Sunday Masses will be 8:30am at St. Peter’s and 10:30am at St. Mary’s. (Our normal Mass times for Sundays). The total Worship Commission minutes are on the parish website for those interested.
b. Education – Suzanne Schneller has been on leave of absence during January and February to take care of her Mother. Her leave may need to be extended a little bit longer. Ron Stang, Judy Muething and Joy Nichting have been key figures in helping with PREP during her absence.
One of the main discussions in the Education meetings recently has been how to attract young people and get more parents involved in St. Peter’s youth programs.
c. Finance – All budgets have to be in to the Finance Commission by mid-March. They in turn will report to PPC when they have them all.
The main concerns of the Finance Commission at this point in time are the aging roof and the aging heating and AC systems. They are old and inefficient and will be expensive to replace when the time comes. Some Finance facts are: 1. A financial statement of the parish will be published at the end of March 2. St. Peter’s needs over $3000 a week to meet present expenses and to put a little in savings. This does not include covering possible emergencies. 3. Only 1/3 of the families registered at St. Peter’s support the parish financially. d. Outreach – No report at this time. e. Parish Life – MOMS, LeeAnn Hermann, reported the combination Craft Show and Bid & Buy will be on separate dates. There are two reasons for this: 1. More and more crafters are interested in the craft show and they will need to use additional room. 2. If these two events are on separate days a customer will not have to spend so much money at one time. The Craft Show will still be on the first Saturday of November but the date of the Bid & Buy is still in the planning stages. It will need to be at a time when St. Peter’s has a Saturday Evening Mass.
Last year a private parking space at St. Peter’s was sold to the highest bidder at the Bid & Buy. This will also be available next year. There is a sign at the space to let people know not to park there as it is reserved for the winners.
No date has been set for the Parish Picnic at this time.
MENS CLUB- Ed Sendelbach is the newly elected Men’s Club President and reported: 1. The pancake breakfast is tentatively set for May 18. 2. Men’s Club has new members and they are all working to make things easier for the parish. 3. The Men’s Club hopes to be able to take care of the roof and gutter problems of the Church.
f. AFF – No report at this time. Fr. Don said that Fr. Tim Schehr’s seminar centered on “Women in the Bible” and was very well attended. The Twinning Committee provided an excellent lunch too.
g. Fiscal – Stan Kinnard provided a 9-point fact sheet to Fr. Don and to PPC. These are all maintenance issues which members of PPC went over one by one. Some of these problems are in the process of being solved and plans were made to tend to the others when feasible. More fiscal items are listed under New Business.
New Business: a. From the Suggestion box – one suggestion in the box proposed putting up shades on the Church windows and this issue has already been addressed. b. Fact Sheet from Stan Kinnard. (See above Fiscal statement) c. New Lighting -Greg Vondermuelen has replaced all the Church lights with fluorescents which will save quite a bit of money in the long run. Eventually the other lights in the building will be replaced. A timer has been put on the parking lot light to increase the amount of time the parking lot is lit.
Marge Armbruster volunteered to provide the closing prayer at the next meeting: Thursday, April 10, 2008 following the 7:00pm Mass.
The meeting was closed with a prayer. St. Peter’s Church Family Survey Information
